5. The Beatles - "Come Together"
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_HONxwhwmgU "Come Together" is one of the most covered songs, not just from the Beatles discography, but of all time. Which is insane. Because that means hundreds of people have sung the words "joo-joo eyeball," "toe-jam football" and "walrus gumboot."
With passion. What the hell does
any of that mean? John Lennon admitted that the song began as a possible campaign song for California's governor hopeful Timothy Leary, but devolved into utter nonsense once Leary was imprisoned for drug charges.
"The thing was created in the studio. It's gobbledygook; Come Together was an expression that Leary had come up with for his attempt at being president or whatever he wanted to be, and he asked me to write a campaign song. I tried and tried, but I couldn't come up with one. But I came up with this, Come Together."
