8 Maniacal Musicians Who Exemplified The Word Rockstar

4. Ozzy Osbourne

The perpetrator of one of the most shocking acts ever seen in a live music performance, Ozzy Osbourne was an absolute agent of chaos in his heyday.

The "Blizzard of Oz" was such a maniac that he was eventually fired from the stratospherically successful heavy metal group Black Sabbath. His fame did not end there and after emerging from a three-month long alcohol and cocaine binge, he went on to forge a solo career as one of the most successful, storied metal performers in the world.

As immortalized in Netflix's film The Dirt, Osbourne once snorted a line of live ants in a depraved competition with Nikki Sixx; he also once had to pay damages to a priest after knocking him out with a hash-laced brownie. In a further shocking tale, the wild musician drove his first wife to the hospital, paralytically drunk and without a license. It's probably worth mentioning that she was about to give birth to his child at the time.

However, Osbourne's most immortal entry in rockstar history, came during a performance in 1982 where he cemented his legacy as an absolute nutcase; biting the head off a live bat that was thrown onto the stage.

Osbourne has later claimed that he mistook the bat for a toy and was repulsed by his actions, even more so than by the taste. However, having witnessed some of the rock star's more unhinged incidents over the years, fans can be forgiven for a healthy dose of cynicism.
