8 Most Famous Beefs In Hip Hop Music History
5. 50 Cent Vs. Ja Rule
In one of the longest-running beefs in hip hop history that has ranged from personal diss tracks, to physical violence, to lighthearted trolling, 50 Cent and Ja Rule have been going back and forth for more than two decades now.
Allegedly originating when a friend of 50 robbed Ja for his chain at gunpoint back in 1999. The beef transitioned into the pair's music but still continued physically, like when an altercation broke out between the two rappers' entourages in 2000 that resulted in 50 suffering stab wounds.
The war would continue in the years that followed, with 50 becoming one of the most commercially successful artists of the 2000s, with two consecutive number one albums.
Like many of the feuds featured on this list, the beef didn't exist in isolation between the two artists and ultimately became a wider dispute featuring other MCs. This was the case when 50's labelmate Eminem also feuded with Ja Rule releasing the track "Hailie's Revenge" after Ja had made comments about his daughter.
Ultimately the beef would come to an end but in a move rarely seen in these kinds of conflicts, it concluded with one party, in this case, Ja, conceding defeat. In a 2013 interview, he explained that he believed that he and Murder Inc had lost the war, though the pair have still gone on to trade barbs so maybe the feud isn't over after all.
