8 Musicians With Bizarre (And Fascinating) Alter Egos

6. R&B Legend Johnny Otis Gets Dirty

Johnny Otis is something of a musical legend, playing a massive part in the development of American R&B and rock and roll. Not only did Otis start his own record label, he recorded a bunch of his own singles (many of which topped the US R&B charts). He was apparently known as the original €œKing of Rock & Roll€, and is often referred to as the €œGodfather of Rhythm and Blues€. Such a musical legend, then, conjures up images of grandness and dignity. But all of that fades away when you realise the man released an album under the rather on the nose alter ego Snatch And The Poontangs. The self-titled album was released in 1969 (ahem) and was ground-breakingly dirty for the time it was recorded, featuring track titles like The Pissed-Off Cowboy, Two Girls In Love (With Each Other) and Big John Jeeter. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n-oA3U-5c8w
