9. Kanye West My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy
Kanye West believes he can do everything from writing music to releasing shoes...so why shouldn't making a film be on that list as well? Besides, if you've seen the video for Runaway (the second single from My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy) it becomes fairly apparent that West has a rather striking talent for conceiving the visual, as well as some decent directorial chops. My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy is basically just that... a record that deals with themes of excess and celebrity, as well as touching upon issues like race, the American Dream, rampant consumerism and the pleasures and problems that these things can illicit, often simultaneously. One could easily imagine a narrative in which a damaged character throws themselves into a world of debauchery in an attempt to escape something quite tangible and intimate. We've seen this kind of narrative time and time again, like Jay Gatsby's parties as a front for his loneliness in The Great Gatsby or Raoul Duke's drug-addled trip to Vegas in Fear And Loathing Las Vegas. So come on, Kanye, put down the clothes and make something that's actually interesting.
