6. Daft Punk Tron: Legacy (soundtrack)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m4cgLL8JaVI The French electronic musicians Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo and Thomas Bangalter are mostly known for their electro-funk songs such as One More Time, Technologic and their more recent duet with Pharrell, Get Lucky. Thats what makes their soundtrack to Tron: Legacy even more interesting. Collaborating with American composer Joseph Trapanese, the pair fused their electronic elements with an 85-piece orchestra. The result was a soundtrack that probably earned more praise than the film did. Except for a brief spoken monologue by actor Jeff Bridges, its completely instrumental. The use of basses and violins gives it a John Williams Jaws feel on Recognizer; Outlands is a great chase song; End Of Line and Derezzed (which got a video) are DP getting to play to their electro-roots; and Disc Wars is incredible for its building crescendo. Good for the power users, but also starts to move into the classical orchestral arena. An electronic remix album, Tron: Legacy Reconfigured, is also worth a listen for the energized workers. Other contenders: Eric Serra The Fifth Element (soundtrack).
