9 Geeky Musicians You’ve Never Heard Of

5. FalKKonE

As far as heavy rock and metal go, occasionally vocals are just something you don't want. Between the steady beat, heavy percussion and guitar work, plenty of metal works best as pure instrumental. When you need a clear soundtrack without the distractions of vocals, it's hard to think of a better place to end up.

FalKKonE is an accomplished heavy metal instrumentalist, with a fantastic collection of game and anime covers to their name. Their work in making tracks such as Halo, The Witcher, and Final Fantasy fit an orchestral metal theme are impressive. But that's before we consider their work with pieces as disparate as The Phantom of the Opera, Beethoven's Piano Sonata No.8, and the goddamn Thomas the Tank Engine theme.

When it comes to turning things into metal, this artist is a musical King Midas.

Their true achievement though lies in their work with the Doom 2016 and Doom Eternal soundtracks, purely for being able to SOMEHOW fit even more metal into these lead-lined works of art.

My passion for all things Sci Fi goes back to my earliest days, when old VHS copies of Thunderbirds and Captain Scarlet gripped my tiny mind with their big, noisy vehicles and terrifying puppets. I'd like to say my taste got more refined over the years, but between the Warhammer, Space Dandy and niche Star Wars EU books, perhaps it just got broader. I've enjoyed games of all calibre since I figured out that dice weren't just for eating, and have written prose ever since I was left unsupervised with some crayons next to a white wall. I got away with it by calling it "schoolwork" for as long as I could, and university helped me keep the charade going a while longer. Since my work began to get published, it's made all those long hours repainting the walls seem worth it.
