9 Geeky Musicians You’ve Never Heard Of

4. Charlie Parra Del Riego

To many fans of geek inspired metal, Charlie Parra Del Riego is recognisable as an old hand in this niche corner of the music industry.

Another producer of high quality metal covers of game, film and anime soundtracks, Charlie specialises in guitar-riff heavy re-imaginings of recognisable songs. His Goes Metal series is perhaps the best example of this, taking familiar soundtracks and reworking them to rely on memorable displays of guitar finesse.

Charlie has been at this a while, his first work on YouTube dating back to 2008 in the somewhat early days of the website. Since then his backlog has grown impressively, covering a wide range of geeky franchises and re-imagining their songs into fantastic instrumentals with stunning guitar riffs.

Though his career has taken off he is yet to forget his roots, and his YouTube channel continues to see updates and grow even to this day.

My passion for all things Sci Fi goes back to my earliest days, when old VHS copies of Thunderbirds and Captain Scarlet gripped my tiny mind with their big, noisy vehicles and terrifying puppets. I'd like to say my taste got more refined over the years, but between the Warhammer, Space Dandy and niche Star Wars EU books, perhaps it just got broader. I've enjoyed games of all calibre since I figured out that dice weren't just for eating, and have written prose ever since I was left unsupervised with some crayons next to a white wall. I got away with it by calling it "schoolwork" for as long as I could, and university helped me keep the charade going a while longer. Since my work began to get published, it's made all those long hours repainting the walls seem worth it.
