Depending on who you are and what your political views entail, this one may not be all that surprising.

The American national anthem- that swelling, triumphant and liberating song that seemingly embodies freedom for all - actually appears to rejoice in bloodshed and death. The third verse of the song features the lyrics:

Their blood has washed out their foul footsteps' pollution No refuge could save the hireling and slave From the terror of flight, or the gloom of the grave

The most disturbing thing about these lyrics isn't the reference to brutal victory against the enemy, it's the 'hireling and slave' part, which appears to delight in the death of not just run of the mill soldiers, but people who are actually being forced to fight against their will.
