9 Reasons Megadeth Are Better Than Metallica
5. They're Currently Writing Better Material
While there's a debate to be had over who was writing better music in both band's formative years (it honestly depends on too many factors to state definitely one way or the other, and will largely vary from person to person) it's now got to the point where Megadeth are undeniably writing better stuff.
Load (1996), Reload (1997) and St. Anger (2003) are some Metallica's most divisive (hint: commercial) albums. Though they faired okay with critics, many fans were disappointed by their betrayal of their thrash-metal roots.Though 2008's Death Magnetic was a step in the right direction, fans were again disappointed (and quite frankly confused) by the album's production, specifically the overall sound quality. Fan complaints became so vocal (there were multiple petitions for the album to be remastered) that Lars Ulrich came out and admitted creative control regarding the production had been handed over to Rick Rubin.
Conversely, out of Megadeth's last four studio albums, three have been received enthusiastically by critics and fans alike. United Abominations (2007), Endgame (2009), and Thirteen (2011) were all praised for sticking to the band's blisteringly heavy thrash-metal roots. That being said, it would be unfair of me not to mention the frankly terrible Super Collider, released in 2013. Boy, that album sucks. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4mfjpwqdUMI
