6. Mustaine Wrote Some Of Metallica's Best Songs

Owing to the fact Metallica hasn't released a huge amount of material in the thirty years since it started (when you remove some of the band's more divisive material, the list of great albums gets even smaller) much of Metallica's goodwill and legacy is founded on its initial few records.

One of the most significant of these albums is Kill 'Em All, the band's début record. A cursory look at the song credits, however, reveals that Dave Mustaine was heavily involved with some of the band's greatest songs. The Four Horsemen, Ride The Lightning, The Call Of Ktulu, Metal Militia and Phantom Lord all featured the involvement of Mustaine, and acted as a massive foundation when the band was just starting out. Despite the fact Mustaine was ejected from the band, Metallica continue to play songs written and co-written by Mustaine. It's a simple fact that Mustaine's song-writing ability is very much a part of Metallica's early success. That's not to mention the fact that Metallica rewrote Mustaine's original pitch for the song Mechanix into The Four Horsemen (significantly slowing it down), which Mustaine then recorded himself for Killing Is My Business... maintaining the original's brutal speed and intensity. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C4nCy5CITc8
