I'm a back door manThe men don't know, but the little girls understand
Originally written by Willie Dixon and recorded by Howlin' Wolf, "Back Door Man" is about the most straightforward endorsement of cheating you're likely to hear. There are no excuses given here--no backwards logic about rescuing someone from a bad relationship or only having sex on days that have an "S" in them--just pure, unadulterated...adultery. Even in the hands of one of the most enigmatic and frankly puzzling lead singers in the history of music, there's no denying that the message of "Back Door Man" is simply this: I'm going to have sex with your wife. And I'm not going to feel the least bit bad about it.
And there's nothing you can do about it. It should also be noted that the phrase "back door man" has nothing to do with putting it in the butt, by the way. (Well, not exclusively, anyway.) It refers to the man on the side escaping out the back door when the cuckold comes home unexpectedly. So next time you listen to this song, just picture Jim Morrison running out of a married woman's house with his pants around his ankles and a big ol' smile on his face. Because apparently cheating feels real nice and every woman should have a back door man.
