9 Successful Bands That Changed Their Vocalist

1. Pink Floyd

Pink Floyd are one of the biggest musical acts that have ever existed.

Formed in 1965 with original vocalist Syd Barrett, the band wasted no time hitting the charts, notching up two charting singles in quick succession.

It was in 1968, however, that Barrett decided to leave the iconic rock collective due to mental health issues that were revealed to be drug-related in the years following his departure. It was because of this that bassist and occasional vocalist Roger Waters took the position of lead vocals and provided the soothing and relaxing tones that we all know and love today.

It was shortly after the vocal change that the band altered their musical style, going from three minute pop-rock tunes, to seven minute progressive masterpieces, with the groundbreaking album The Wall at the forefront.

This is easily one of the most important changes of vocalist ever to hit the music world, as it is arguable that Pink Floyd would not have reached their legendary heights without this change in genre, spearheaded by the exit of their original frontman.
