9 Times Marilyn Manson Was The Greatest Rockstar In Any Circle Of Hell
2. Fraud - Mutilation Is The Most Sincere Form Of Flattery
Album: Eat Me, Drink Me (2007)
Killer Lyrics: “Hey, there's no rules today / You steal instead of borrow; you take all the shapes that I make / And you think that you thought all the thoughts that I thought you / Don't you?”
Around the time of release, the track was rumoured to be an attack on My Chemical Romance frontman (and distant unacquainted cousin of Joe Rogan) Gerard Way. However, it was later clarified as a blanket parody of musicians whose output is derivative. A rumour that still persists is that the voice heard in the intro belongs to Adolf Hitler.
As with the rest of the album, the track is composed by Manson and Tim Sköld. Sköld’s stabbing guitar riffs and Manson’s throbbing percussion drive the song forward and contrast with the weary but satisfying “F**k you / F**k you / F**k you too” chorus. The slogan Manson coined for his self-proclaimed art movement The Celebritarian Corporation, "We will sell our shadow to those who stand within it”, is also paraphrased in the lyrics
