9 Times Marilyn Manson Was The Greatest Rockstar In Any Circle Of Hell

1. Treachery - WoW

Album: The High End of Low

Killer Lyrics: “I'm worse than what you think you'd catch from me / ‘Complicated’ is understated / Did you stop and take a look at who you fell in love with?”

Manson’s lyrics often address treachery, abandonment, and heartbreak. However, WoW finds Manson rally against the misery of a relationship entered in bad faith. A relationship where one partner is in love with a mould of their own creation which they cram and contort their partner into. Manson skewers the pressure to fundamentally change oneself to maintain a relationship.

The percussion effect at the song’s beginning is credibly thought to be Manson snorting a substance; the odds are high it was cocaine. WoW is a sleazy industrial track with sexual moaning spliced in. Ramirez’s bass line drives the song’s melodic and seductive instrumental, which contrasts Manson’s triumphant dissection of a relationship on the decline. His delivery has a spoken-word, sleeping-pill hip-hop vibe despite its tongue twister lyrics.

While it is common for fans to get lyrics tattooed on their bodies, Manson has WoW tattooed on his wrist. He explained he got the tattoo “because you'd be surprised how often it's said”.
