9 Times The Grammy Awards Chose Its Metal Poorly

6. 1995: Soundgarden- Spoonman

Truth be told, Soundgarden were among the more talented groups to come out of the Grunge movement. However, the fact that the band was not only nominated but WON in both the Hard Rock AND Heavy Metal performance categories in 1995 should have been a red flag.

Not unlike the 1989 awards wherein the least appropriate choice wins out, this should have been Pantera’s year, with "Far Beyond Driven" having been the pinnacle of their commercial success fore and aft.

If not that, then Anthrax and Public Enemy’s live version of “Bring the Noise” would have been suitable for the sake of bringing greater attention to the burgeoning fellowship of rap and heavy metal before suffering its travestied future.
