Alice In Chains Albums Ranked From Worst To Best

7. Rainier Fog

As the years go on, it gets harder and harder for the old guard of bands to really show their stuff. After years of living the rock and roll lifestyle, there comes a time where artists have to ask themselves whether they've said all they wanted to say. Once you listen to Rainier Fog though, you'll realize that the answer in Alice's case is a resounding "HELL NO."

Made back in Bad Animals studios in Seattle, there's a feeling of coming home on this record, almost as if the guys are revisiting their past selves and seeing how they've changed as people along the line. From this newest incarnation of the band, this might be the best lyrics they've written, with the title track being a loving tribute to their home and Never Fade being a heartbreaking love letter to former rock titan Chris Cornell. The arrival of DuVall in the writing department is also a welcome change of pace, with So Far Under going over insanely well.

Old habits die hard though, with songs like Drone and Deaf Ears Blind Eyes sounding like the band still trying to work through the slow-tempo dirges of their previous effort. When all is said and done though, this is one of the more thoughtful albums Alice has written in ages, as well as an intriguing sign of where things will be going later down the line.
