Alice In Chains Albums Ranked From Worst To Best
6. SAP
The idea of acoustic music mixing with Alice in Chains is nothing that new at this point. With their MTV Unplugged performance being one of the greatest moments in the history of the network, these guys are definitely no strangers for when it comes time to turn the volume down. Though most of this gentle beauty is excluded only to EPs, SAP slips under the bar solely on the basis of death by comparison.
As the story goes, the initial cash that Cantrell was given to make the demo of what would become Would? proved to go by a lot quicker than expected. Wanting to make the most out of the experience, the rest of the guys decided to lay down some acoustic stuff and release it without any hype behind it. Though this was certainly a change of pace with previous hits being Man in the Box, the results are just as spellbinding, with Brother and Got Me Wrong standing as some of the most tortured musical moments of their career and Right Turn being a great freewheeling sing-along with members of Soundgarden, Mudhoney, and Heart.
However, the only problem with the album is that there's not much else beyond that, with only 4 real songs and a hidden track that feels more like a joke than anything else. These songs would reach their final form on MTV Unplugged, but this is certainly a great prep for the genius that was to come.
