9. Easy On Me - Adele

This song is okay.

Adele became one of the biggest names in the industry at the turn of the previous decade, and despite consistently breaking records and raking in the big numbers, she never gave in to the pressure of systematically putting out new music in order to stay relevant. Adele takes her time, and when she does release an album, the world stops to listen.

The problem then comes with the polarising expectations that build up in the meantime. If Adele sticks to her trademarked, winning formula - heartwrenching ballads about relationships gone awry, songs you would be stupid to attempt at karaoke - then people criticise her for doing the same old thing; but if she tries something experimental, to take her music in new directions, it doesn't sit well with people, because that's not the Adele they know and love.

Easy On Me leans towards the former - a radio-ready ballad that puts Adele's showy vocals at the forefront. It was, of course, an immediate success upon release, hitting number one in the UK as well, and pretty much everywhere else.

But it's just an okay song. We live in a world where you either adore Adele and she can do no wrong, or you can't stand her, and are so put off by her success that you have to whine on the Internet about how overrated she is. It's okay to just admit that this song is just okay.
