All US Number 1s From 2021 Ranked Worst To Best

7. Save Your Tears - The Weeknd & Ariana Grande

Perhaps due to social media, music charts are bigger now than they've ever been, with each top ten reveal being its own mini-event, as millions of people around the world wait to see if their favourite artist has nabbed that ever-coveted number-one spot.

In order to get there, all kinds of gimmicks are arranged, one of the most popular ones being the guest-star remix. The Weeknd's Blinding Lights was such a mainstay on the charts that it ranked as the best-performing single in the history of the Hot 100, surpassing Chubby Checker's signature song, The Twist. But the follow-up single, Save Your Tears, despite being a hit in its own right, was lagging behind.

Enter megastar Ariana Grande, a frequent collaborator of The Weeknd's. It's no wonder that these two have worked together as often as they have, as their silky vocals mesh beautifully. Ari's added POV lifts the song, making it outshine the original. As for that animated music video, in which a cartoon The Weeknd creates a robot Ariana Grande for companionship, well, it's just icky.
