Alter Bridge: 10 Awesome Facts Hardly ANYONE Knows

9. Mark Tremonti Made Myles Kennedy Skydive To Join Alter Bridge

One would think being an incredible singer would be enough to get you into a band, but for Myles Kennedy, that was far from the case. For him to join Alter Bridge, Kennedy had to face one of his greatest fears.

Mark Tremonti first met Kennedy when Creed toured with Mayfield Four. When Alter Bridge needed a singer, Tremonti was sure to throw his new acquaintance's name in the hat. The audition went well, but there was still one more thing the potential frontman had to do before he was officially part of the rock group.

In a recent Sirius XM interview, the singer and guitarist told a story of going to the world's tallest freefall. Tremonti explained for Kennedy to join Alter Bridge, he needed to first take a dive with him.

What made the tale more interesting was that Kennedy still wasn't told whether he made the cut even after taking the plunge. It wasn't a one-day rib, either. For months, the band kept their future figurehead in the dark, wondering whether he actually got into the group or was being hazed.

Also worth noting was that none of the other band members showed up to the fall that day. Nothing suspicious there.
