10. Island Of Fools
If The Other Side announces itself with a shotgun blast, Island of Fools straight-up takes the roof off. The opening riff for this track is absolute carnage - but in the best way possible.
You can tell Tremonti has been perfecting his craft of crunching heavy metal on both solo albums, Cauterize and Dust, yet here it's injected with just a smidge more technique to differentiate the two bands. Across the board it's pure brutality, the band firing on all cylinders.
Myles turns in a huge, lung-straining chorus (which gets extended vocals on the final pass) as the band all lock-step underneath him, building up to a Cry of Achilles-style dual solo. Myles takes the first, a relatively subdued piece with intertwining guitar lines (like his creepy-sounding break from Show Me A Sign), before what has to be one of Tremonti's fastest-picked sections ever recorded closes the song in regal fashion.
Listen out for: Seriously, the final passage by the Tremonster. Guitar fanatics will be learning this pattern for many years to come.
