Arcade Fire - Reflektor Track-By-Track Review
Overall
rating:4.5
Since Arcade Fire won the Grammy for Album of the Year back in 2011 for the epic 'The Suburbs', pretty much most of the musical community has been dying to hear what will come next. Now, in 2013, we finally get to hear what they've been cooking up. First came the news they were working with LCD Soundsystem's James Murphy. Then came the guerilla marketing campaign. Then came the 'Reflektor' music video, where we really acquired a taste for what to expect. After the title track appeared on line, we saw they'd assumed a more electronic direction, and when listening to the album, it is primarily that route that they take. There are a few songs which break the mold and go for something completely out of the blue, which doesn't always work in the band's favour. Taking inspiration from psychedelic, baroque, electronic and reggae roots, 'Reflektor' is an excellent album, but does it live up to the Canadian band's legendary reputation? Let's see... Reflektor A track most of you will already be familiar with, and doesnt require much introduction. Its all there; the tribal beats, the climax with the string section, the David Bowie cameo, Arcade Fire triumphantly open their Fourth studio album with this title track. Even if youve listened to this track, or watched the music video, 50 times, its still impossible not to fall in love with it all over again. Its unexpected bursts of dance still surprise, and its layered beats still feel fresh. Definitely an album highlight.rating: 4.5
