11. Knee Socks
A surprisingly astounding track at the dead end of this album, this one also features Josh Homme, albeit more prominently. Towards the end of the track, Homme lets loose a soulful section of definite
...Like Clockwork proportions. Dark, moody, and very soulful, Homme's presence only fuels this song's outro. The beginning? It's a dance-able tune with lots of groove and lots of dirty implications. Something you'd play at that moment on the right night, if you catch my meaning.
RATING: 4/5
12. I Wanna Be Yours
This entire track - from its vocal harmonies to shining melodies - sounds like a Justin Timberlake cover. I wish I was kidding, but the lads have crafted a great Timberlake track that'd be perfect on his
Justified album (alternatively, if it were five minutes longer, it would be right at home on
The 20/20 Experience). Ideally, this track ends the album okay, but the song is an okay interpretation of something that is nothing like any Arctic Monkeys track.
RATING: 3/5 The album does a great job of conveying a change - starting heavy, bombastic rock and slowly melting into these crafted pop songs that are underwhelming and sometimes off-putting. This change doesn't necessarily amount to much, and sadly, will go down as a misstep. Arctic Monkeys are a band that have taken change in the correct direction -
Humbug - and ultimately will go down as the band's attempt further change that wasn't remotely necessary. Alex Turner and co. made a dance-friendly Arctic Monkeys album, and it was completely pointless.
This is just my opinion, and although I've majorly considered it, it doesn't reflect the views of everyone, including
the main review on WC from Jack Haworth. What do you think about
