Black Sabbath: 10 Most Underrated Songs
9. Trashed - Born Again
It was shellshocking to see how horribly Born Again was received when it was first released. Originally thought to be the kick in the ass the band needed after the departure of Ronnie James Dio, the molding of Deep Purple's Ian Gillan just didn't seem to be the right fit, complete with one of the worst album covers in rock history. As the years have gone on though, time has been pretty kind to the song Trashed.
Granted, it's not like this song is necessarily worthy of being Shakesepeare, given that it's mostly about Gillan getting into a car wreck while drunk off his ass. However, the real eccentric part of this song comes in the actual production and execution. Even though Iommi is there when you need him for a good riff, the muffled production and crummy sound quality makes it sound a lot more dirty than it actually is.
In fact, this is one of those rare instances where the screwup may have been ahead of the curve, with most of the griminess of this tune being a blueprint for the more grungey sounds that would be coming out a decade down the line. Whereas other sonic experiments suck both then and now, this might be a case of a flop that got a lot better with age.
