Bruce Springsteen Smashes Manchester With His Wrecking Ball - Review

Towards the end, Bruce showed some self depreciating humour which has become a staple of his recent shows, feigning exhaustion and requiring good ol€™ Steve to revive him with a couple of squeezes from a wet sponge€although the energy he put into his performance I wouldn€™t have been surprised if a much younger man would have needed a stretcher. Dashing from end to end of the stage throughout, reaching into the crowd, climbing atop a piano and stripping from his typical black waistcoat/shirt combination to reveal the classic t-shirt look from the €˜Born in the USA€™ days. At one point, after he brought a girl on stage so she could dance with new saxophonist Jake Clemons he literally carried her down the stairs and back into the crowd€and this was after at least 2 hours of rocking out!

Of course there was one man missing from the show, that was €˜The Big Man€™ himself Clarence Clemons, but a touching tribute towards the close of the show proved that whilst he€™s gone, he will never be forgotten. With the crowds roar for each of Jake's (Clarence's Nephew) sax solo's, you could almost feel the Big Man€™s spirit reverberating through the stadium. I was thrilled that he played almost every track that I was hoping for, the only notable exceptions being €˜Jungleland€™ and €˜Outlaw Pete€™, but who can really complain after such a pumped up thrill ride that came in his 30 track set list? But for those of you who like me, missed €˜Outlaw Pete€™, here€™s his outstanding performance from Glastonbury a few years back. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8i5A1Pn0z6k There are very few artists living or dead who could work a crowd quite like The Boss and frankly this is the image of America that the world truly needs to see. Seeing literally the coolest man alive just makes me feel sad that America€™s chief global exports come in the guise of your Justin Bieber/ Twilight types. The world really needs to be re-educated in awesomeness, I propose some sort of €œBruce not Bieber€ campaign. Despite this, there is one thing I know for certain. I could quite happily never see another concert again now I€™ve just seen the heart-stopping, pants-dropping, hard-rocking, earth-shocking, booty-shaking, love-making, Viagra-taking, history-making, legendary E Street Band!
