Doctor Who Series 6 Soundtrack Available From Tuesday
The album contains two CDs and 66 tracks, including the melancholy “River’s Waltz,” eerie selections from the episodes “Night Terrors” and “The God Complex,” as well as many others.
Fans will be able to pick up the latest collection of Murray Golds stunning soundtrack this Tuesday when Doctor Who Series 6 hits shelves. As in the shows score, the music is performed by the BBC National Orchestra of Wales and conducted by Ben Foster. The album will contain two CDs and 66 tracks, including the melancholy Rivers Waltz, eerie selections from the episodes Night Terrors and The God Complex, as well as many others. The musical score of Doctor Who plays a pivotal role in the show, adding emphasis to emotional turning points, heightening tension during important reveals, and providing an overall continuity for recurring characters and motifs. Since 2005, the show has had new doctors, new companions, writers and directors, but one constant tying New Who together is the score. Murray Gold has held the reigns for six years, constructing beautiful original themes, as well as incorporating and adapting classic sounds dating back to the days of the BBC Radiophonic Workshop. Murray Gold has been nominated four times for a BAFTA in Best Original Television Music for his work on Vanity Fair, Queer as Fold, Casanova, and Doctor Who. His breathtaking compositions for Doctor Who have been performed live numerous times over the last few years, including Doctor Who: A Celebration performed in 2006 at the Millennium Center in Cardiff, and appearances in 2008 and 2010 at the The Proms at Londons Royal Albert Hall. Most recently this month, the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra presented the Doctor Who Symphonic Spectacular! conducted by Ben Foster, with live appearances of classic enemies during the performance.
