DOOM: Every Album Ranked From Worst To Best
6. JJ DOOM - Keys To The Kuffs
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WW-9TcDTKa8Keys to the Kuffs held the promise of a rebirth for DOOM. In some spots it follows through with a dazzling reinvention in songs such as "Guv'nor" and "Banished," while other moments such as "Dawg Friendly" offer very little other than the feeling of being let down.
But this disappointment is not without any enthusiasm. The album's jarring electronics from Jneiro Jarel are essential regardless of whatever low points they may contain. The instrumentals are clean but frightening, perhaps falling in tandem with a central theme of the album: cleanliness.
"Guv'nor" and "GMO" are marred by a theme of destruction from an environmental standpoint as well as the degradation of health. On top of these songs about unhealthy institutions, DOOM ends the album by singing "Wash Your Hands," a genuinely disgusting song about the prospect of filth among women in a club he is attending.
While both Jneiro Jarel and DOOM are operating on high levels, the final result is an uneven album. Though it's high points are certainly the highest DOOM has reached in ages.
