Download Festival 2014 Review: 10 Best Performances

10. Flogging Molly

A couple of years ago, Download scored a victory by putting the tub-thumping, aggressively second generation Irish sounds of Dropkick Murphys (as Sonisphere have for early July) and for this year, Copping stayed closer to the Emerald Isle by bringing in Flogging Molly for a mid-Friday slot. There€™s something about the Irish brogue that fits the situation, especially when the weather isn€™t exactly playing ball, and Molly€™s persistently energetic, enthusiastic brand of rock went down a storm with the gathered crowds, as it invariably does when they play more intimate, smaller venues. That€™s the thing about Flogging Molly - it doesn€™t so much matter where they play, it€™s about how the crowd reacts, and when they€™re engaged with toe-tapping, oddly familiar ditties like this, it€™s impossible not to react well.
