Download Festival 2014 Review: 10 Best Performances

3. Aerosmith

44 years is a long time to be in any game, but to be at the top of the rock and roll roller coaster without releasing albums every year, and to be able to pull in as impressive a crowd as legendary rockers Aerosmith did on Sunday night to close the festival is just unthinkable. Some might have had concerns that the band fronted by Steven Tyler - now complete with a Jack Sparrow beard, and several other of the captain€™s accessories and mannerisms - would struggle to justify top billing, but those grumbles quickly disappeared on the wind as soon as they launched into their typical assured set. Bloated with anthems, the setlist was a triumphant journey through four decades of brilliant hits, with gigantic, irresistible tracks like €œJaded€, €œI Don€™t Want To Miss A Thing€ and €œDream On€ littered throughout in such a way that guessing at the final track became increasingly difficult. The only slight dip was when Tyler gave the reigns over to Joe Perry for a sledge-hammer anti-war interlude, complete with shots of Perry busking in London in an England shirt, somewhat oddly. But it wasn€™t a dip for long, and the day belonged to the timeless rockers.
