Eminem: 10 Things You Didn't Know About The Marshall Mathers LP
9. Stan's Missing Verse
The story of ‘Stan’ is well known to fans of Eminem, but some fans might not know that the story almost carried on after his crash into the water.
The video above is taken from a rare interview with Eminem, uploaded by ‘The Hip-hop historian’, in which the rapper explains that there were originally more verses to ‘Stan’, which would have seen the obsessed fan survive the crash and eventually confront Eminem.
He explains:
"He escaped and came to my house to kill me. Then I had to kill him first, [but] I missed him, and he was in the hospital for like three weeks. Then he was pissed off that I didn’t write him get-well cards, so he came to kill me again, and in the last verse finally I just blew his head off."
The story of ‘Stan’ was later revisited on ‘The Marshall Mathers LP 2’ on the opening track ‘Bad Guy’. The song’s sequel sees Stan’s younger brother, Matthew Mitchell, seek revenge of Eminem for the death of his brother.
