Eminem: 10 Things You Didn't Know About The Marshall Mathers LP
8. Steve Berman Is A Real Person
The name Steve Berman will be
familiar to fans of Eminem for his appearances on skits from the rapper’s
albums, most notably ‘The Marshall Mathers LP’ and ‘The Eminem Show’.
On ‘The Marshall Mathers LP’, a skit entitled ‘Steve Berman’ precedes ‘The Way I Am’ and consists of a fictionalised conversation between Eminem and his record label over the content of his songs. Berman memorably berates Eminem for “rapping about homosexuals and Vicodin”, claiming that “I can’t sell this s***!”
This plays off the real life situation that inspired ‘The Way I Am’ after the record label pressured Eminem for more commercial content. What people may not know however, is that Steve Berman is a real person.
At the time of the skit in question, Steve Berman was the President of Sales & Marketing at Interscope Records and now currently works as the Vice Chairman of the record label. Likewise, Paul Rosenberg, who has appeared in numerous skits over the course of Eminem’s career, is a music manager that has worked with the rap star since 1997.
