Eminem - Kamikaze: Every Song Ranked From Worst To Best
8. Stepping Stone
Eminem has always been a great storyteller as well as an expert wordsmith, and that is on full display here as he summarises his relationship with rap group D12.
Starting from 2002 at the height of their success, Eminem recounts how following the death of Proof they all began to drift apart, and admits he may not have what it takes to glue them back together.
This track is reminiscent of 2004 Eminem, and feels like some of the more introspective tracks from Encore. Everything from the laid back storytelling approach, to the melodic Eminem chorus has an aura of nostalgia. Whereas the majority of his music these days sees him trying to rip the beat a new one, here he reminds us that he is also a fantastic song writer.
Though bitter-sweet for anyone hopeful of a D12 reunion (he says D12 are over), this is an intriguing insight into the tumultuous pressure that fame can put on friendships.
