Eurovision 2018: 9 Other Hungarian Bands You Should Hear
4. Red Swamp
Stoner/sludge metal
FFO: Monster Magnet, Orange Goblin
Insanely filthy and insanely groovy, Red Swamp harness their inner NOLA to deliver an uncompromising riff storm to all those who come near.
Another band fresh onto the scene, Red Swamp formed in 2015, quickly releasing an untitled demo before releasing debut album Tiszassippi in September 2016. A solid affair but it was clear more time as a band was needed.
Fast-forward to 2018 and not even the sudden departure of their drummer could stop the Red Swamp juggernaut. Releasing their sophomore in April (fancy that, a stoner metal album released in April), Desertdrive blends heavy, bass-driven riffs with vocalist Gergely Kovacs clean yet powerful vocal delivery.
That is not to say though that these lads are one dimensional. The song "Crossed" in particular brings in growled vocals and chugging breakdowns, sharing more in common with bands like High On Fire and early Mastodon.
To support the album, Red Swamp to touring parts of mainland Europe including Austria and Romania, as well as a few shows back in native Hungary supportive Greek stoner rockers 1000mods.
