Every Arctic Monkeys Album Ranked Worst To Best

4. Tranquillity Base Hotel & Casino

This sci-fi concept album has been dismissed by some as elevator music but, looking closer, it's possible to notice the songs which are beautifully constructed as is the world this album paints for its listener.

The band's most divisive album was called out for its lack of catchy choruses which seemed at odds with their previous guitar-based anthems that filled stadiums. This is a point which has an element of truth as songs like 'Star Treatment' and the titular 'Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino' struggle to find a place in the band's live performances amid their rock-based numbers like 'Brianstorm' and 'I Bet You Look Good on the Dancefloor'.

However, the band's evolution from their gritty early sound to this futuristic offering is a welcome change considering they could very easily have knocked out a second-rate AM if they had wanted to ride that wave. Instead, this album transports us to a luxury resort on the Moon in a daring concept album which tells a story, a rarity among modern artists and for that it should be applauded. While taking us on this journey Turner explores the complexities of politics, faith, consumerism and popular culture in his lyrics, another refreshing change from the usual ballads of wooing girls in clubs.
