Every Arctic Monkeys Single Ranked Worst To Best
8. Brianstorm
It was always inevitable that a song like Brianstorm would become one of the most rabidly loved and massive songs in the band’s back catalogue. It has an enormous singalong riff, headbanging speed and big old vocal hooks.
One year after the Arctic Monkeys became the biggest and most talked about band in the UK, they were left with the gargantuan task of following up one of Britain's finest ever rock albums. How do you follow up a multi platinum album? With the incredible Favourite Worst Nightmare. And how do you open up said album? With a song as audaciously massive as Brianstorm.
The band shifted into a harder, rockier gear and took from the lyrical antagonism of their debut but matched it musically. The song is based off a man called Brian who showed up in the band’s dressing room in Osaka, Japan. He was a massive character with the kind of presence that made the group question whether he was a magician or just that unique. Well, thanks Brian! You inspired one of the Arctic Monkeys all time biggest tunes.
