Every Blink-182 Album Ranked From Worst To Best
4. NINE - 2019
I'll take some flak for this. However, with a year or so going by since NINE's release, the new sound has grown on me. Matt Skiba's vocals slot in much better on this record than they did on California (I genuinely couldn't tell who was singing on Bored To Death when I first heard it). The addition of hip-hop stylings screams of Travis Barker's insanely talented influence, and the lyrics are as dark as anything we've heard from Blink-182.
If music videos are taken into account then the wild flossing trip that is Darkside would take this record down a few pegs. Fortunately, the music is good enough to forget about it. After more than 25 years in the business, this record could have gone the way of Green Day's ¡Uno! ¡Dos! ¡Tré! and cemented Blink's place as has-beens. Luckily for everyone, it didn't do either of those things.
Sombre, brooding I Really Wish I Hated You is the highlight but there is something to find from the first song to last. The poppy hooks are more obvious than ever, and the electronic influences from Hoppus' side project Simple Creatures sneak in; these are not criticisms by any means.
