10. Macy’s Day Parade - Warning

2000's Warning saw the band move away from pop punk and incorporate more varied styles of music into their sound. As a result, it ends with Macy's Day Parade, a largely acoustic number with hints of radio rock to it.

Taking its name from the annual Thanksgiving tradition, the song is Billie Joe lamenting modern consumerist culture, labelling those participating in Black Friday sales as "the living dead".

That's not true; zombies are way more polite than Thanksgiving shoppers.

The music is incredibly simple; a straightforward chord sequence played over the top of a repetitive rhythm section with some tinkly production lingering in the background. Whilst this is certainly an interesting departure for the band, it does wear out its welcome rather soon.

A nice idea on paper and a decent idea in delivery, Macy's Day Parade was a brave choice from such an established act, but not one that wholly paid off.
