5. Amy - ¡Dos!

In July 2011, British singer Amy Winehouse died at the tragically young age of 27.

Though they'd never met, Billie Joe Armstrong was a huge fan of Winehouse and was deeply saddened by her death. He put these feelings into words, which eventually became Amy, the final song on ¡Dos!.

With just a finger-picked guitar soundtrack to accompany him, Armstrong sings about how Amy was taken far too soon and makes the heartbreaking offer to be her friend, a statement tinged with regret based on the dire circumstances of her passing.

The context behind Amy helps elevate it to a new level, but the song itself has a lot going for it, even if it is quite simple on the surface. The decision to end the record on such a sour note could have backfired, but it instead serves to highlight how important Winehouse was to so many people and how her death profoundly touched them all.
