Every Muse Album Ranked Worst To Best
6. The Resistance
The Resistance comes at an interesting time in Muse's career. They had been a household name for rockers for years and had seen some mainstream success with a song featured on the soundtrack to Twilight. So on this record, the band took the opportunity to experiment with musical theatricality.
Songs like the title track and "Uprising" have the spacey stylings many fans come to expect, but the album has loftier ambitions than that. Songs like "United States of Eurasia" shows them adopting a choral-like vocal approach that sounds like a modern-day Queen while "Guiding Light" is an overlooked gem coated in arena-rock bombast. The production on this record is also fantastic, giving songs like "MK Ultra" and "Unnatural Selection" the weight they need to become larger than life.
The reason it comes in so low is that the album doesn't have as much a replay factor as other Muse releases. While the album is great, terrific even, it does seem to wear out its welcome towards the end with the band's classical piece "Exogenesis Symphony." It may not be as essential as other Muse records, but a must for any serious Muse fan to check out.
