Every Muse Album Ranked Worst To Best
5. The 2nd Law
Many fans may consider this to be Muse's worst release, but this album leaves a better impression with each passing listen. I can totally see why some fans were upset though. "Madness" fired off many alarm bells for fans of the band that they were selling out and going pop. Aside from the main single though, this is Muse's most eclectic collection of songs.
"Panic Station" has a Chili Peppers vibe, "Supremacy" is a track that could have been on a Bond soundtrack, and "Animals" helps blend electronica with rock quite nicely. This record also helps display the talents of the rhythm section to great effect. Dominic Howard's skills behind an acoustic and electronic drum kit is masterful while Chris Wolstenholme's bass tone varies from synthetic to snarling with each tune. Wolstenholme also flexes his muscles as a vocalist on "Save Me" and "Liquid State" to great effect.
Muse have always mixed it up with each release and this record shows the most varied sounds they've put on a single disc. While not everything sticks, I still respect the hell out of the direction they took on this outing and broadening their musical horizons for what they would do later down the road.
