11. Who Do You Trust?
Fastforward 22 years from Papa Roach's long forgotten debut album, we find ourselves looking at an album which isn't necessarily overlooked, but with all things considered it probably should be. 'Who Do You Trust?' was released in 2019 and followed on from 2017's 'Crooked Teeth' (which we'll be talking about shortly). The record continued the band's pop oriented era, having left their nu metal poster boy days in the dust long ago.
This continual path of constant successes evidently couldn't last forever mind, and the band's transition into pop produced rock music disenfranchised many of their fans, with this album being a key culprit. Newer fans discovering the band were seemingly given an unrealistic idea of what to expect from them, while old school fans felt they had been cut off by the band's gradual softening over the past three albums, which culminated on this critically panned record.
'Who Do You Trust?' was the band's lowest charting record in the United States since their obscure debut album, failing to break into the top 70. This theme persisted in most nations and even Belgium (a place where Papa Roach traditionally enjoys good chart success) suppressed the record to the lowly peak position of 131. Overall, 'Who Do You Trust?' is far from Papa Roach's proudest moment.
