Every Papa Roach Album Ranked From Worst To Best
9. Metamorphosis
Easily the band's least accessible album from the perspective of mainstream radio airplay due to the song narratives, 'Metamorphosis' saw the band take on a change of direction towards a darker directive. Released in 2009, 'Metamorphosis' was recorded at the famous Paramour Mansion in Hollywood, much like its predecessor, 'The Paramour Sessions', though it took on an extremely different form.
Inviting hints of glam rock into their sound for the first and only time alongside especially explicit lyrical themes, 'Metamorphosis' is (regardless of your personal opinion of it) Papa Roach's most standalone album. For once and perhaps the only time in Papa Roach's career though, the gamble struggled to pay off. The album received a generally lukewarm reception from fans and critics alike, despite a strong chart performance.
Songs such as 'Hollywood Whore' remain amidst the lofty heights of the band's most well-known tunes, but critics accuse the band of missing the glam rock point. Bands such as Twisted Sister and Motley Crue achieved success through the genre because they produced accessible, inviting and polarising singles. 'Hollywood Whore', although a good song, is none of these things. Other tunes include the equally gritty 'I Almost Told You That I Loved You', and the near polar opposite 'Lifeline'.
