Every Queen Album Ranked Worst To Best
3. Innuendo
14th studio album (1991); UK #1; US #30
An underrated masterpiece. The title track and album opener, which shot all the way to the top of the UK singles chart, returns Queen to their trademarked blend of rock and operatic influences, and, much like Bohemian Rhapsody, never gets tiring in spite of its extended runtime - in fact, it's even less tiring than the former, since it hasn't been ruined by overexposure.
By the time this album was made, Freddie was inching closer and closer to his impending doom. But while his diagnosis must have hindered his creative output in the previous record, The Miracle, in this one the artiste seems to accept his poor fortune and even defy it. Apparently, watching Freddie go up to the mic to belt out The Show Must Go On (the band's best closing track ever) despite his condition was a mind-blowing event. But watching Freddie do anything was always the same as watching a work of art come to life.
Key Tracks: Innuendo; I'm Going Slightly Mad; The Show Must Go On
Fun Fact: The song Delilah - not to be confused with Sir Tom Jones' classic - was a loving ode to Freddie's cat.
