Fall Out Boy: Ranking Every Album From Worst To Best

6. American Beauty/American Psycho

Fall Out boy
Island

If you're anything like me, the first time you heard that surf-rock Munsters sample in 'Uma Thurman', you got uncomfortable flashbacks to all those Black Eyed Peas songs that used samples of old, slightly obscure songs to make up for the fact that they had nothing original to offer.

But then, once you stopped being such a reactionary doofus and actually listened to what Fall Out Boy was bringing to the table, those fears ski-tattled. And a lot of this album had a similar effect.

To borrow some of that infamous Pete Wentz parlance, American Beauty/American Psycho is a grower, not a shower.

Weirdly enough, this has nothing to do with the songs' lack of catchiness. In fact, from top to bottom, this could very well be the most stylish, hook-heavy album the boys have ever released. They embrace chanting like never before, while instrumentally they're using anything and everything to get the job done, whether that be horns, strings, or whistling. Foot-tapping melodies are clearly not the issue.

Really, the need for some of these tracks to grow on you comes down to their quirkiness. That playfulness doesn't always hit strong right out of the gate, but it damn sure builds on each repeated listen. This could very well be the album that gets spun the most by loyal FOB fans in the long run.

Album Standout: 'Jet Pack Blues'
