Fall Out Boy: Ranking Every Album From Worst To Best
1. Folie À Deux
Here it is. The moment when Fall Out Boy lays it all out on the table for anyone still curious about the band's ambitions. They are not the little pop-punk band that you can fit in your pocket. Not anymore. They want more than that and they want their fans to expect more than that from their albums.
And with that, the hangers-on willing to overlook Infinity On High as the band's "experimental phase" promptly unjoined the Fall Out Boy fan club and unhitched their wagons once and for all. It's all good, though, as it only opened up more room for fans of operatic vocal harmonies, big bursting choruses, and smirking melodrama.
Much of Folie à Deux - French for "a madness shared by two" - plays like a big-budget docudrama about the history of music. They journey through all the big eras, touching on The British Invasion, the Rockabilly revival of the '70s, and glam rock with equal aplomb. But most surprisingly, it's not jarring in the least. Everything flows as it should, their core style shining through without overreaching into any one particular genre.
And let's be honest here, all of the critical backlash and subsequent bandwagon overhaul was worth it if only for the last couple of minutes of 'What A Catch, Donnie'. Have you ever heard such a beautiful ballad come from a "joke" punk band?
