Foo Fighters: 4 Things We Want From The New Album

3. Energy

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hhVgw4d-ryc 'Wasting Light' had something that could be argued was largely absent from their latter-day recordings - energy in abundance. Even the self-styled rocktacular Disc One of 'In Your Honour' felt forced and stilted. Tracks like 'The Sign' may have had fast tempos, but the playing felt stiff and reined in. 'These Days', a relatively mid-tempo offering from their last album, somehow sounds positively sprightly in comparison, with the instruments given room to breathe. I don't think anyone would complain about a less guitar-heavy Foo Fighters album if it at least sounded like the band were enjoying themselves and letting off steam. Butch Vig's production certainly helped, but then a man with Nirvana's 'Nevermind' on his CV would inspire nothing less but the highest confidence. With Vig again at the helm for the new album, the band will hopefully click into a high gear once again. Then again, the guys could be getting old, and slowing down... but did you hear 'White Limo'? Not bad for a bunch of 40-somethings.
