2. Album Of The Year

Nominees: Sound & Color - Alabama Shakes; To Pimp a Butterfly - Kendrick Lamar; Traveller - Chris Stapleton; 1989 - Taylor Swift; Beauty Behind the Madness - The WeekndWho Should Win: Kendrick Lamar Quite the wide spectrum of musical styles and genres for the much-coveted Album Grammy. In the past, it hasn't been unfamiliar to witness one of the rank outsiders claim the golden gramophone over more well-known and popular established acts. 2014 saw Beck beat Beyoncé and in 2009 we saw Robert Plant and Alison Krauss defeat the likes of Coldplay, Radiohead and Lil Wayne. This category is definitely one of the hardest to predict. With eleven nominations to his name, Lamar is definitely a favourite to win this award. To Pimp a Butterfly has been lauded with praise for embracing the entire history of black music, relevant lyrics and intricate raps that actually mean something. Kendrick Lamar amalgamates rap, jazz, hip-hop and funk so elegantly and meticulously that it is really difficult to see any other nominees try and threaten his victory. Although both Taylor Swift and The Weekend had phenomenal years with their super successful LPs, Lamar's eloquence and message stands proud and tall beyond the others. His album and lyrics actually mean something. There is major substance here, it isn't all about the style like some of the songs featured on the other nominated albums. When listening to ...Butterfly, you go through a myriad of emotions and that is the sign of a fantastic song writer. To Pimp a Butterfly is an album that you must listen to; a fantastic social commentary on so many important matters; Kendrick Lamar is rightfully deserving of the most nominations at this year's ceremony.
