Grammy Awards 2016: Predicting The Winners

1. Record Of The Year

Nominees: Really Love- D'Angelo and the Vanguard; Uptown Funk - Mark Ronson featuring Bruno Mars; Thinking Out Loud - Ed Sheeran; Blank Space - Taylor Swift; Can't Feel My Face - The WeekndWho Should Win- Uptown Funk - Mark Ronson featuring Bruno Mars "Too hot! Hot damn! Call the police and the fireman" exclaims Bruno Mars in one of the most memorable song lyrics of the past decade. This song was inescapable. If you hated it, moving to the Antarctic was your best option for sanity; if you loved it, you were no doubt jiving at every given opportunity. This song was beyond massive! British producer, Mark Ronson teamed up with Bruno Mars on this funky number that demolished charts all around the world. It spent fourteen consecutive weeks at number one in the US and seven in the UK. It shattered streaming records and became of the most watched videos on YouTube of all time. The word 'success' doesn't even seem fitting enough to describe just how popular it was. Yes, Taylor, Ed and The Weeknd (D'Angelo who?) had consistent success throughout 2015, but this award is for the Record of the Year not Album of the Year and sometimes a flash in the pan can become so big it has the power to destroy even the most super of musical superstars - remember Gangnam Style, everyone?. Mark Ronson didn't exactly follow Funk up with a barrage of hits, but so what? This song probably made him enough money to retire. It did exactly what is said on the tin; it was funky, fresh and utterly cheerful. Despite valiant efforts from the other nominees, none of them can really hold a candle to a song that was quite the anomaly in terms of how big it actually was. With record sales, record streams and record views; Uptown Funk is a lock in for the win. The Grammy Awards will no doubt end on a very funky note!
