In Prosecution of Taylor Swift: 4 Reasons She's Not "The Best"

1. She's Still Growing As An Artist

Taylor-Swift-600x300 The BuzzFeed piece ends thusly: "Basically Taylor is the best, so haters back off and let her be. The End." If that is the crux of the BuzzFeed defence of Taylor Swift, then frankly I hope she never calls them to defend her on murder charges. That closing argument is so thin, it makes an 8x10 glossy look like a full on hardcover. They're ultimately saying, "Leave Tay Tay alone, she's an artist and you don't understand her." If she is a true artist, which she is/should be, she needs to not take said haters to heart too much, while also taking constructive criticism from them. Hater is such a loosely used term that basically gets thrown around to anyone who objects or doesn't jump onto a bandwagon. A true hater can't be satisfied by anything a person does, and is against them for time immemorial. With that proper definition, I'm not a Taylor Swift "hater". I'm not really a fan, but I've been known to think she's catchy from time to time, despite my better judgement. The point is, she's still growing as a musical artist and she has the possibility to break out into better musical pastures. Potentially, the relationship burn book phase of her career may be just that...a phase. Within the next year or so, if she listens to her critics and evaluates her public image a little better, she can shrug off her serial heart breaker image and emerge a stronger artistic woman instead of a girly Pop princess. If she expects to get to that point though, she can't merely go on being fabulous and ignoring "the haters". She needs to identify her true haters, and leave them behind; identify her critics, and listen to what feedback they have to offer, and identify her fans, and realize why they like her so much. Using those three points of information, her career could blossom into something much more substantial than what it's been thusfar. I'm not here to bury Taylor Swift, I'm here to help her grow, and the first part to that strategy is to bypass puff pieces like this and grow like an adult. If she takes tht advice to heart, she could be making music that knocks us off of our feet, and even I'll be impressed when and if that day comes. The Prosecution rests, What Culture Republic! What say you? Is Ms. Swift primed to
